Pool Parties Still Make a Style Splash

The Williamsburg Waterfront isn't as cool as the (McCarren) pool, but the street-style ground troops were out in full force at the first summer concert (Xiu Xiu and Deerhoof playing Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures/Why?/Fang Island/Pictureplane). The Village Voice did a great job capturing the best looks in this tedious-to-navigate slideshow, so if you feel like seeing all the stuff you'll crave this summer if you aren't already, have a click-through.

Why Daphne Guinness Kept Issie Blow's Things off the Block

Daphne Guinness tells the Financial Times why she stopped the auction of troubled fashion muse, socialite and suicide Isabella Blow's personal collections. The open letter is an unapologetic study in angle-free compassion and friendship.

Found: Harem Skirt/Pants

I've been on the hunt for harem pants, but not the ones with the ballon butt and skinny bottoms (though those can be cute, too). In London earlier this month I spotted a girl in an ankle length "skirt" with the bubble effect about the ankles which may or may not have been separated into pants. Asked her about it and was told she'd picked it up in Rome, and the label of the garment eludes me. Web searching yielded these Vivienne Westwood harem pants (pictured) which are quite lovely (and close to what I'm looking for). But it wasn't til weeks later that I serendipitously discovered the perfect un-pair–it's actually an ankle length Indian cotton bubble skirt but has the exact effect I'm going for–while gift shopping at Muji in Soho.

If You Didn't Hear It Here First, It's Because I've Already Told You

Vintage Coach bucket bagFirst, fashion. Dig out those Coach bucket bags you begged mom for in high school. The more beat up (hello, eBay!) the better. Just call it a hunch.

DetroitNext, demographics. I've been collecting reasons to believe the next decade will belong to: Detroit! It won't be evident for a little while (that's why these are called predictions), and it has nothing to do with cars. More because of ree-hee-ally low rents. And a stellar dance, music and cultural scene (via Model D, I'm sure they'd back me up on this) with about the best cred you can get, not to mention a bang-up ambassador in Girl Talk-er Gregg Gillis.

Next: Baltimore!
