Found: Modernist Fantasy + Inspirational Memory
This NY Times piece focuses on an upcoming Sotheby's auction of the contents of Robert Isabell's West Village home after the death of its owner, the 57-year-old floral-designer-to-New-York's-elite. The designer's home held an incredible collection of mid-century furntiture and decorative art, carefully sourced for years and meticulously chosen to fit his vision of home. Neither opulent nor trendy, the objects that caught the designer's eye would often become desirable and expensive among tastemakers, collectors and cognoscenti years later. Looking at the slideshow I sensed an odd familiarity in the images of the breathtaking hideaway that had the director of Sotheby’s 20th-century design department “simply blown away.”
